Review

A compelling MUST READ for anyone contemplating a hysterectomy and for those who have already had one. I wish I had read this book prior to my 12/98 surgery. Had I done even a small portion of the research Elizabeth did (12 years of distilling over 45,000 medical journal articles down to the book's 856 footnote references), I would never had had a life-altering operation that I did NOT need. I have other books written by physicians that I go to when I have questions or concerns. However, I still go back to Hysterectomy, Ovary Removal, & Hormone Replacement months later to find answers to what is now happening to me. I find it to be the only book that consistently meets my needs.

The book is easy to read, written in layman's terms, informative, thoroughly researched and enlightening. There is no hidden agenda - just strong data to educate and enable women to make informed decisions. It gives you information your surgeon may not have told you that you NEED to know. The quality of your physician's life won't change, but your will be changed forever.

This is a book that NEEDS to be read by our significant others. Our loved ones can only observe the multitude of changes occurring after this surgery. When they see dramatic personality changes or hear complaints of physical ailments - it is easy to write it off to hysteria, PMS or hypochondria. After finishing Hysterectomy, Ovary Removal, & Hormone Replacement our loved ones can better understand why and how we have changed. That knowledge is not always enough but it is a beginning. Too many women end up losing not only their reproductive organs but their mates.
